China-based smartphone vendor Dopod, which has strong connections with HTC (High Tech Computer), plans to launch six TD-SCDMA-enabled smartphones in the China market in 2010, according to industry sources familiar with Dopod's roadmap.
Three out of the six models are slated to launch in the second quarter, said the sources, noting that each model will have a display size ranging from 3.4-3.6-inch and carry a suggested retail price of over 4,000 yuan (US$586).
Three other models slated for the second half will have a display size ranging from 2.6-2.8-inch and one of the three models will be priced at 2,000-3000 yuan, the sources added.
Additionally, one out of the six models will support China Mobile's OMS (open mobile system) platform, while the remaining five models will support either Android or Windows Mobile, revealed the sources.
Overall, Dopod plans to launch more than 15 new smartphones in 2010, with 90% of new phones supporting 3G standards, company CEO Dennis Chen said in earlier reports
Dopod is also considering rolling out ARM-based smart handheld devices with larger size displays later in 2010, Chen revealed.
