Shanghai Media Group (SMG) and Hangzhou-based company Wasu Digital TV have successfully applied for Internet TV licences from the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT), according to reports from Beijing-based firm Marbridge Consulting.

The two companies are expected to receive their licences in the near future.  Li Yiqing, CEO of Wasu Digital Media Group, is reported to have said in a recent interview that Wasu's licence for the operation of Internet TV services was received last week, and that the company will receive the formal documentation today.

Shanghai Media Group is believed to have built up the largest customer base for IPTV services in China, reaching over 2mn subscribers to its service 'BesTV' by the middle of 2009.
