China Telecom Launches First Customized 3G Tablet&

Chinese telecommunications operator China Telecom has announced the launch of its first customized 3G tablet computer product named LifePad, which has an embedded EVDO module and supports China Telecom's 3G network.

Made by Mastone Communication & Electrical Development Company, China Telecom's LifePad adopts Freescale's i.MX51 processor based on the ARM Cortex A8 core. It has a screen of 800×600 inches and pre-installs the popular Android 2.1 operating system. The tablet computer provides a series practical functions and tools, including Microsoft Office viewing software, mobile television software, and handwriting-reconginition software.

A representative from China Telecom told local media that LifePad combines China Telecom's eSurfing platform and the Android platform. With many innovative applications, the new product can enhance users' loyalty to its eSurfing platform and promote the development of China Telecom's 3G business.

China Telecom's chairman Wang Xiaochu previously revealed that the company plans to evaluate consumers' response to iPad, the new tablet computer launched by Apple, and will negotiate with Apple for the possibility to introduce the product into the Chinese market.
