China Unicom (Hong Kong) ,the country's second-largest telecom operator, announced yesterday that it will spend over RMB 10 billion to upgrade its ADSL broadband service for over 80% of its users by the end of this year.
China Unicom has been implementing upgrading projects focused on construction of fast fiber-optic networks in 31 major cities including Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenyang and Guangzhou.
In addition, the company will also provide new multimedia applications such as video and games to attract more users.
China Unicom's ADSL user base reportedly increased by 325,000 in November to 383.31 million.
